Most Asked Questions About Invisalign Braces

Although Invisalign braces have received a great deal of publicity and media interest over the past year or two, a great many people are still trying to find out some of the basic information about them, including how they work.

In this article we're going to look at some of the most common questions people ask about Invisalign's clear braces, with helpful information relating to each question.

1. How obvious are clear braces compared to traditional braces?
Answer: Clearly traditional braces leave a lot to be desired as far as visual appearance is concerned, becoming one of the most obvious facial features for the best part of three years. Clear braces offer a great deal of improvement in this regard, because they are virtually impossible to detect.

Once you have your Invisalign braces in most people won't know you're even wearing them, and for family photographs you'll be able to smile with confidence, knowing that you won't have to deal with seeing a lump of metal grinning back at you from the pages of your family photo album for ever more.

2. Will anyone be able to tell if I have invisible braces in?
Answer: They're called invisible braces because to all intents and purposes they are, since unless you know what to look for the chances are that you probably wouldn't be able to ever tell. Think about it - how many people have you seen recently wearing traditional braces? Probably a few, either on television, at the shops, in town, at school.

Now how many people have you ever seen wearing clear braces? Almost certainly the answer is none, although in truth you'll have seen plenty of them - you just won't know it.

3. Can I still brush my teeth effectively, and floss?
Answer: One of the real benefits of Invisalign braces is that they can easily be removed at any time, very discretely and comfortably. In fact you're actually encouraged to do this, so that you can brush your teeth properly, and even floss.

You can remove your brace for eating certain foods that might otherwise be a problem, and for occasions such as a professional close up photo shoot, or for those romantic moments!

4. How long will I need to keep my clear braces in for each day?
Answer: You must keep the invisible braces in for at least 23 hours a day, every day. This might sound a lot, but when you think about it, you're only having to take them out to do your teeth twice a day, totalling no more than 10 minutes, and then you still have 50 minutes a day for eating particularly tricky foods (or kissing!)

It's important though that you do keep them in for at least 23 hours a day because otherwise the teeth can start to revert to their former position, and you may even find that your brace no longer fits.

5. How long is the teeth alignment process using Invisalign braces?
Answer: On average wearing Invisalign clear braces can complete the teeth alignment process in around half the time of normal braces.

The most you can expect to have to wear them is eighteen months, although many people find the treatment is complete in under a year.

6. What support is there for me during the teeth alignment process?
Answer: Invisalign offer a great deal of support as this is really part of the way in which their teeth alignment process works. Once you are fitted with your first set of braces you have two weeks before you need to return to your Invisalign dentist.

You'll be given a quick checkup to make sure all is well, and then you'll be given a replacement set of clear braces which are slightly different to the first pair, helping to continue nudging your teeth along. Every two weeks you'll be given a quick checkup and a new set of braces, so the support is second to none.
